The Paperboy
Author & Illustrator: Dav Pilkey
Publisher: Orchard Books
Publication Year: 1996
Location: Knox County Public Library- Powell
Awards: Caldecott Honor
Summary: A boy and his dog awaken early to prepare papers in the garage, eat breakfast, and then head out on their paper route leaving everyone else sleeping. It's a different world: still and empty until they go back home to sleep. The beautiful acrylic paintings capture the moon-lit world and then the gradual lightening and sunrise.
Classroom Ideas: The boy in the book is a wonderful character to show responsibility without him saying any words. Great character study!
