Snowflake Bentley
Author: Jacqueline Briggs Martin

Publisher: Houghton Mifflin
Publication Year: 1998
Location: Knox County Public Library- Powell

Summary: This is a biography of Wilson Bentley, who grew up on a farm in Vermont and loved snow. He spent his lifetime studying snow and eventually was the first person to be able to photograph snowflakes. The woodcut illustrations evoke the perfect historical feel for the story.
Classroom Ideas: In my 5th grade classroom, I used this to study the scientific method. The scientific facts included in the sidebars make it fascinating for older students to read the book in more detail on their own.
